Rebel attacks in southern Thailand
At least ten people have been killed in attacks by suspected Islamist militants in Thailand's southern Yala and Pattani provinces since 27 April. The attacks have coincided with the fifth anniversary of a government raid against militants at the Krue Se mosque in 2004, which left up to 32 insurgents dead. Subsequent clashes that day between Thai security forces and insurgents left at least 107 people dead. Due to the ongoing Islamist insurgency and the resultant insecurity in southern Thailand, red24 currently advises against all travel to Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla provinces.
